Water system GROHE Blue wins the German Sustainability Award Design 2021

Design is a key factor of change: Sustainable design contributes significantly to the transformation towards a sustainable society. In addition to usual tap water, the innovative water system GROHE Blue enables consumers to draw filtered and chilled still, medium or sparkling water straight from the kitchen faucet – completely hygienic with two separate internal water ways. This eliminates the need for users to buy heavy water bottles and the bottles thus saved contribute significantly to a reduction of plastic and CO2.

In its statement, the renowned experts of the German Sustainability Award jury particularly honoured this combination of practical and sustainable functions for homes and offices: Due to its high level of convenience, GROHE Blue has the potential to “promote a change of mind-set in society and thus a paradigm shift”. As the jury concluded, the timelessly elegant and minimalist design makes the water system a long-lasting companion for the kitchen.

“We are proud to have received the award in the new design category” says Thomas Fuhr, Leader Fittings LIXIL International & Co-CEO Grohe AG. “The award is further proof for us that we are on the right track with our product development: Our resource-saving solutions are not only produced sustainably but should also support users in making an effective contribution to a transformation themselves. Our Blue water systems enables every consumer to save up to 200 plastic bottles a year. And we are not only tackling the global plastic waste problem on a product level. Within our Less Plastic strategy, we also aim to replace plastic packaging for our products with more sustainable alternatives until 2021 and saved so far 23.5 million items made of plastic since starting the project in 2018.”

In its 13th year, the German Sustainability Award Foundation is bestowing the prize for sustainable design for the first time. In addition, the global brand GROHE is also a finalist in the transformation category “Resources.”
